Irish Charity “Chernobyl Aid Ireland” was formed in 1997. We are a voluntary registered charity (Chy12648) with the head office in Waterford but with the members span the whole of Ireland. Our main aim is to provide comfortable living conditions, good food and holidays for the children of Grozovo orphanage and other children who badly need it. All our members are voluntary, ordinary working people who give up their time freely to make a better life for children in Belarus.
There are many members of the charity who have never been to Belarus but who work tirelessly all year round fundraising the money to bring the children to Ireland and pay for supplies to take out to the orphanage. As Chernobyl Aid Ireland is totally voluntary organization, we fully rely on the donations and fundraisings.
Twice a year –in May and in September we organize the convoys with humanitarian aid. All members of the convoys give up their own annual leave to travel to Belarus.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead, anthropologist.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our charity. Without their commitment and support during all these years we wouldn’t be able to achieve so much. Thanks to their involvement, their energy and their passion we can make better life for these children and give them something they’ve never had before – our love and hope for a great future!
